As early as the end of 2020, China Unicom stated that it had planned to retire 240 local 2G networks, and complete 2G retire as soon as the end of next year. In other words, it is now estimated that China Unicom has completed the 2G withdrawal from the network.
At the same time, China Unicom also said that while retiring 2G networks, it will also perform 3G retiring simultaneously, eventually forming a minimalist 4G+5G synergistic target network. According to the breaking news, from now on, the new mobile phones launched in China at the request of telecommunications no longer support the CDMA network standard, and the iPhone is not the only one.
This will bring the greatest consequence to users, which is "phone disconnection." For example, in some places where China Telecom Unicom's 4G/5G network signal was not covered in the past, there may be relatively weak 2/3G signals. Although they cannot access the Internet, they can barely make calls. But now it will directly display "No network service status".
In contrast, China Mobile is still the only domestic operator that also owns a 2/3G network. Although China Mobile will inevitably complete its withdrawal from the network in the future, it is not as radical as China Unicom Telecom at the moment, and China Mobile still retains relevant network services for users.
Is 2G/3G still useful? iPhone users have something to say
In all fairness, we rarely use 2G/3G networks at present. Even if they do, they can't even open a webpage, which is actually useless. Therefore, it is understandable that operators choose to withdraw from the network.
However, for iPhone users, I am afraid it will have a little impact. The iPhone is currently recognized by users as the smartphone with the worst network signal performance. According to my personal use as an example, extremely poor network conditions often occur in elevators, underground garages and other places, especially when the iPhone is equipped with dual SIM cards and dual standby conditions.
One is a mobile card and the other is a Unicom card, so the difference between the two can be clearly seen. The mobile card may sometimes have weak signals and switch directly to 3G, retaining the possibility of answering the phone, while the Unicom card directly enters the state of no network, and the gap between the two is obvious.
